Introduction

 The Department of Family Medicine is the first in Pakistan to be recognized as a specialty at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Office of Employee Health seeks to improve the health and wellbeing of all AKU employees in Pakistan. The department fosters a thriving, collaborative environment focusing on quality care, excellence in learning and education, and in realizing the pivotal role of Family Medicine in the health care delivery system at the policy level.

Responsibilities

As an integral member of a multidisciplinary team providing comprehensive support to employees, you will be expected to carry out  screening, brief intervention and referral to treatment (SBIRT model) for patients coming to clinic for mental health issues, improve awareness of mental health issues in employees at large, act as behavioral coach and provide brief motivational interviewing to patients in order to help them with behavior change goals which include smoking cessation, weight loss, chronic disease management etc., document and track patients’ status in the programme and report discontinuation to team in order to discuss ways to re-engage, provide awareness sessions to improve understanding and help with application of coping behaviors to deal with stress and distress. Specific responsibilities include to:

  • interact with patients who require behavioral changes and lifestyle modification for multiple medical issues
  • document and track patients’ status in the programme and report to team to discuss ways to re-engage
  • develop curriculum encompassing psychosocial aspects of the weight management programme
  • liaise with different stakeholders for efficient execution of the programme.

Requirements

You should have:

  • a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, preferably MPhil degree in the same
  • at least one year of clinical experience, of which working with adolescents will be preferred
  • excellent interpersonal skills, particularly communication skills and ability to deal with adolescents and adults
  • ability to develop curriculum encompassing psychological aspects of weight management programme
  • general understanding of principles of motivational interviewing and behavioral change
  • ability to effectively work independently as well as in teams
  • excellent command over MS Office package and ability to handle work pressure.
